Helen Lucille (Cathorall) Manns beloved wife, mother and grandmother of Godfrey, Illinois departed this life to her eternal Heavenly home Saturday, April 20th,2024, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 89. She was born November 22nd, 1934, in Shipman, Illinois to Hubert Earl (Mike) and Ruby (Landreth) Cathorall. She was a graduate of Alton High School class of 1952 and earned a Diploma in Nursing from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Alton, Illinois in 1955. On December 19th, 1955, Miss Helen Cathorall married Morris Manns at Fosterburg Baptist Church; He preceded her in death in 2016. Mrs. Manns worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alton, Illinois from 1955 until the hospital’s closure in 1989. She was a dedicated nurse and had a gift for putting others first. Mrs. Manns is survived by six children: Mark (Kim) Manns of Defiance, Missouri, Greg Manns of St. Charles, Missouri, Judy (Shawn) Knight of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Kurt Manns of Godfrey, Illinois Scott (Kim) Manns of Fosterburg, Illinois and Brian Manns.

Grandchildren: Jessa (Michael) Stegall of Alton, Illinois, Steven (Amanda) Manns of St. Louis, Missouri, Shannon (Christopher) White of O’Fallon, Illinois, Chris (Angela) Manns of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Virginia Manns of Alton, Illinois, Kelli (Jack) Hoelscher of Godfrey, Illinois, Patrick (Amy) Knight of Mt. Airy, Maryland, Shelbie (Matt) Callaway of Wentzville, Missouri, Cassidy Manns of Denver, Colorado, Mitchell Manns of Fosterburg, Illinois, and Valerie (Gabriel) Haggard of Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Great-grandchildren: Mariah Allen of Alton, Illinois, Robriyaun Davis of Alton, Illinois, Mi’Kyla Stegall of Alton, Illinois, Anthony Manns of Alton, Illinois, Coley Manns of Alton, Illinois, Devontay Manns of Alton, Illinois, Liam Squires, of O’Fallon, Illinois, Ellis Hoelscher of Godfrey, Brennan Hoelscher of Godfrey, Illinois, and Honey Hoelscher of Godfrey, Illinois, Tyler Knight of Mt. Airy, Maryland, Connor Knight of Mt. Airy, Maryland, Clayton Manns of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Joshua Manns of Lee’s Summit, Missouri

Great-great grandchildren: Corey Howard of Alton, Illinois and Dezyis Everage of Alton, Illinois.

Mrs. Manns is also survived by her siblings Danny (Kay) Cathorall of Pittsfield, Illinois, Carolyn Golden of Cocoa Florida, and Mike (Jodi) Cathorall of Alton, Illinois.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brother Earl Cathorall, and two sisters, Roberta Godwin and Elsie Duty.

Appreciation to Mrs. Manns’ niece, Sandy Carman of Missouri, Mrs. Manns’ sister, Carolyn Golden of Florida, nurse Shannon Dey, Director of Nurses at Asbury Assisted Living, and the entire staff of Asbury Village for their excellent care.

A graveside service was held Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Valhalla Memorial Cemetery, Godfrey, Illinois. The Nurse Honor Guard of St. Louis paid tribute to Mrs. Manns. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
