Held at the Alton Cemetery, the annual Vintage Voices Tour offers attendees a look into Alton's past with authentically dressed actors portraying historical figures and telling their stories. In this excerpt, we learn about notable Altonian Angie Rand Schweppe.
Angie Rand Schweppe was a charter member of the Alton Woman’s Home Association who also coordinated the creation of Riverview Park. Angie was heavily involved with the Human Society and fought for women’s suffrage. A wax figurine depicting Angie Schweppe resides in the Illinois State Museum, part of a collection of 129 figures depicting outstanding women in Illinois history. The collection was donated to the Illinois state historical Library in 1929.
