Wood River City Council Meeting on Jun 3, 2024

The Wood River City Council Meeting on June 3, 2024, commenced with a call to order, followed by the roll call affirming the presence of Council members Ayres, Detmers, Plank, Tweedy, and Mayor Stahlko.

Minutes from the May 20, 2024, meeting were approved unanimously. The council also approved bills for payment for the period between May 16, 2024, and May 29, 2024, without any objections.

The annual investment report for the period from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024, was reviewed and approved. A presentation by Mary Roberts expressed gratitude for the successful Memorial Day event held at the Roundhouse on May 27th. She thanked numerous individuals and organizations for their contributions, including Mayor Stahlko, Council members, Marine Corps Ladies Auxiliary 488, Boy Scout Troop 777, Girl Scout Troop 325, and several local residents.

City officials provided updates on upcoming community events. The Farmer’s Market will begin on June 6th and be held every Thursday. The annual Bike Ramble is scheduled for June 14th, followed by a movie night featuring 'Wizard of Oz' at Central Park. An ice cream social will take place on July 14th at the Roundhouse.

Discussions ensued about recent power outages and the city's emergency preparedness plan. Wayne reported on efforts to review and update the extensive emergency operations manual in collaboration with a third-party entity.

Various other approvals were made, including the authorization of several bids for improvements at the Emmerich Sports Complex and the Belk Park Golf Course. The council also approved requests for organizing community events like the Ice Cream Social and a national night out event hosted by the Wood River Public Library.

The meeting concluded with the council tabling the resolution adopting suggestions and guidelines for city appointments for further review and discussion.
