With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Yoland DeGrand Plunkett, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, who departed this world on May 11, 2024. Born on August 17, 1953, she filled our lives with love and warmth.
Yoland epitomized devotion, especially as a wife, mother and grandmother. Her home was filled with compassion, support and countless games of May I. An avid reader, Yoland’s love for books inspired her family and students, igniting a passion for learning and discovery.
Her career as a dedicated teacher in the Alton School District touched many lives. Yoland’s wisdom, kindness and support left a lasting legacy in the hearts of her students and colleagues.
Yoland’s selflessness and generosity impacted all who knew her. Her kindness, faith, and love remain an enduring testament to her character. Her memory will forever reside in our hearts, guiding us with her love and light.
Preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Nancy DeGrand, sister, Stephanie Doody, and granddaughter, Mabel Grace Rench, Yoland is survived by her husband Mark Plunkett, their children Julianne (Dustin) White, Sam Plunkett, Katie (Caleb) Rench, Sally (David) Kirbach, Luke Plunkett, Andy (Kara) Plunkett and grandchildren Ella, Jonathan, Annagrace, Henry, Lucy, Oliver, Myles, Micah, Karlee, Madison, Lillian, Jackson, as well as her brothers, Father Bud, Al (Karen), Pete (Valli), Thom, and Luke (Karen) DeGrand and sisters, Mary Lou Watson, and Stacy (Gary) Phelps and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of celebration will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul. Additional information and online guest book may be found at www.gentfuneralhomecom
