William Pullen

William C. Pullen, 77, passed away at home on Friday, December 21, 2012. He was born on February 8, 1935, to John T. and Maude (Cole) Pullen. He married Janet K. (Dickerson) on August 25, 1956, at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. They shared 50 years together. Survivors include three children and their spouses, John (Patty) Pullen, Joan (Curtis) Roberts and Jean (Steve) Kainz, four grandchildren, Nicole Pullen, Eric Wood, Christopher (Melissa) Pullen, Stephanie Kainz, two great-grandchildren, Natalie Pullen and Kaiden Pullen, an expectant great- grandchild, and his special friend, Judy Glassmeyer.

Bill graduated in 1953 from Alton High School and entered the Marine Corps for three years during the Korean War. Upon his return he worked for Tri-City Grocery as a butcher. Bill was a member of the Wood River Township Jacyees and earned the Distinguished Service Award and Jacyee of the Year Award in the 1962. In 1966 Bill bought in to Trickey’s Towing with Paul Trickey as an equal partner. Then in 1980 he and Janet purchased Paul and Joyce Trickey’s share of the business taking over sole proprietorship. He then became President of the Professional Towing Organization of Illinois/Missouri and later moved on to the Professional Towing & Recovery Association of Illinois and became 1st Vice President. Bill retired in 1997.

Upon retirement Bill and Janet enjoyed taking many trips to countries such as Ireland, England, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Canada as well as many states throughout the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Janet, and a brother Robert Pullen.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be on Sunday, December 23, 2012 from 2pm to 8pm at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Visitation will continue from 9am until time of funeral services at 10am on Monday, December 24, 2012 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 10 North Center in East Alton. Pastor Daryl Fansler will officiate. Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
