Wayne Eugene “Gene” Parish, 84, died at 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at his home due to complications from congestive heart failure.  He spent the end of his days surrounded by his loving family and friends before going to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was born November 25, 1939 in Jerseyville, Illinois, the younger of two sons born to Wayne C. and Hazel R. (Green) Parish.  He attended Jersey Community High School and served honorably in the United States Navy for 4 years, he was stationed in Newport News, Virginia, after which he returned to Jerseyville, and married the love of his life, Martha Jean. He then worked at Olin Corporation in East Alton from which he retired. After leaving Olin, Gene remained busy by raising hogs, serving as a janitor at First Assembly of God of Jerseyville where he attended church, and working at Excel Corporation in Beardstown, Illinois for several years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his friends and family.

He married the former Marth Jean “Jean” East on August 16, 1963. They were blessed with nearly 61 years of marriage.  In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Cindy Parish and Troy and Annamarie Parish, both of Jerseyville; six grandchildren, Gabriel (Jeshua) Parish of Ft. Moore, Georgia, and Abigail, Chloe, and Quinn Parish, and Landon and Jackson Parish, all of Jerseyville; and one great grandson, Nehemiah Parish of Ft. Moore, Georgia. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Ann Coffman of Jerseyville, Carole and Tom Cotner of Dow, Illinois and Louise Parish of Jerseyville; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in by his father, Wayne C. Parish; his mother and step-father, Hazel R. and Clyde W. Isringhausen; as well as his brother, William L. Parish.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
