Virginia Frye

Virginia A. Frye, 82, went home to meet her Lord and family waiting to greet her with a party at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011.  Virginia had a strong faith and love for family and friends.

  Born May 6, 1929 in Calhoun County, Ill., she was a daughter of Charles and Minnie (Goetz) Suhling.

  Following retirement after 36 years with Olin Corp., Virginia began enjoying her hobbies.  She loved to travel, visit family and tend to her flowers.  She also enjoyed working on crafts.

  She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wood River, faithfully serving on the Altar Guild for many years.

  Surviving are a daughter, Chris (Smith) Davis of Anna, Tex.; 2 grandchildren, Darin and Wendy; four great granddaughters, Alyssa, Dixie, Savahna, and Gabrielle; two brothers, Roy and Aloys Suhling; four sisters, Ann Bollinger, Rachel Asmus, Annette Clark, and Maxine Trosley; fourteen nephews, seven nieces, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Herman and Virgil Suhling; 2 sisters, Betty Jean Suhling and Evelyn Simmons; a nephew, Al Trosley; and her son-in-law, Don Davis.

  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 15 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, and will continue Saturday, July 16 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River from 9:30 a.m. until services begin at 10:30 a.m.  Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate.

  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

  Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Altar Guild.
