Thomas Brennan

Alton |

Thomas Anthony Brennan, 79, of Alton, IL, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023. Born on April 2, 1944, in Chicago, IL, Thomas was a beloved brother, uncle and friend. He was mostly known as Tom to his family and friends.

Tom will be honored with a private Military service on January 5th, 2024 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. This ceremony will pay tribute to his service and commitment to our country.

If anyone wishes to donate, please send your donation in his honor to 5 A’s, the Alton, IL Humane Society, where Thomas had a deep passion for the welfare of animals, especially cats.

Tom was a very generous person to his family and friends with both his time and resources.

Tom is survived by his sister Colleen Drew of Rosewood Heights, Illinois and his brother Patrick Brennan of Chesterfield, Missouri. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Thomas Brennan as well as two sisters, Margie and Sheila, and a brother Bernie.

He was retired from the US Navy at the rank of Chief Petty Officer, E7. He served 4 years active duty and 16 years active reserves. During his active duty in 1962, Tom served on the USS Randolph Aircraft Carrier as an electronics radar technician aboard a US Navy Reconnaissance aircraft. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for being a part of the US Navy response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. As a civilian, he worked for the US government as an electronics technician and retired from civil service after many years of service.

After his military active duty, he received a bachelors and Masters in Business from SIU Edwardsville, Illinois.

For hobbies, Tom loved to tinker with and repair old lamps, TV’s and radios. He also loved to repair old lawn mowers. There weren’t many yard sales that he passed up without stopping to look for a used piece of electronics or an old piece of lawn equipment.

Many thanks to the Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights for their coordination and generous support during our time of mourning. An online guestbook is available at www.paynicfh.com
