Ruby Collins

Mrs. Ruby Lucille Collins, 95, formerly of Bethalto, died at 1:10 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was a faithful woman who loved and served the Lord, her family, and her local church.

She was born on July 12, 1928, in the former town of Brandon in Calloway County, Kentucky, to William Hervie Scott and Pauline (Nanney) Scott. She married J.C. Collins on December 9, 1944, in Mineral Wells, Texas, and he preceded her in death on November 13, 2006. Ruby had retired from Owens-Illinois Glassworks after 20 years.

Surviving Mrs. Collins are: two daughters, Wanda (husband, Mark) Burgund of Naperville and Patty (husband, Harry) Moran of Bethalto; one grandson, Brian (wife, Alice) Hendricks of Springfield, whom she raised; three granddaughters, Stephanie (husband, Gary) Krienitz of Aurora, Rachel (husband, Tom) Sontag of Bethalto, and Alicia (husband, Phil) Sadaka of Edwardsville. Also surviving are: thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Flack of Bethalto; one brother, Gene Scott of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also a mother, grandmother, and aunt to everyone who knew her. She loved and was loved by many people. “Southern hospitality,” best expressed through food, was her love language.

Her family is extremely grateful for the loving care that she received from the staff at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation for the past six years and from BJC Hospice for the last 11 weeks.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Kallal-Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Illinois, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Phil Schneider will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Any contributions in memory of Mrs. Collins may be made to the Building Fund of New Hope Church (newhopegc.com) or to Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto, Illinois, of which she was a member.
