Roseann “Rosie” Utz, nee Katricka, age 87, of Shiloh, IL, formerly of Fairview Heights, IL, born on August 11, 1938, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Monday, May 25, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.
Rosie was a 1956 graduate of St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis, IL. On February 15, 1958, she married Richard Utz and together they raised four daughters. She initially worked for the State of Illinois Unemployment Office in East St. Louis, IL. Rosie was then a sales associate for Famous Barr and later, Macy’s at St. Clair Square. She was an avid bowler, reader, cook, and a huge Cardinal Baseball fan. Rosie was a devout Catholic, being a former member of the OLA and Holy Trinity Parishes and a current member of Corpus Christi Catholic church in Shiloh, IL. She was a member of Fatima Prayer Group and Legion of Mary at St. Luke’s Parish, and a Eucharistic Minister at Belleville Memorial Hospital and to the homebound.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Utz; her parents, Andrew and Anna, nee Gjurina Katricka; her sister, Kathryn Burian; and her brother-in-law, John Burian.
She is survived by her children, Diane Charlton, of Shiloh, IL, Maggie (Eric) Smith of Washington, MO, Jennifer (Jim) Robben of St. Louis, MO, and Theresa (Scott) Jones of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren, John Michael (Julie) Charlton, Michelle L. (James) Martin, Andrew H. (Bria) Smith-Hanneken, Grace C. Smith, Stella Rose Robben, Georgia Grace Robben, and Audrey Rose Jones; four great-grandchildren, James Preston Martin, Vienna Reece Charlton, Presleigh Hanneken, and Theodore Hanneken; and her sister, Andrea Susan (Kenneth) Brown of Summerville, SC. Rosie was our loving cousin, aunt, great aunt and dear friend.
Roseann’s daughters would like to thank BJC Hospice for their professional care, Darnetta “Netta” Mannings for her loving and exceptional care over the past year, and Cheryl Heimermann, a Eucharistic Minister who gave Rosie communion at home and prayed with her.
Memorials are preferred to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, IL.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, IL, with Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
