Rollen Rulo

Grafton |

Rollen James Rulo, 84, died at 10:57 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his residence.

He was born in Richwoods, Missouri on August 29, 1939, the oldest of thirteen children born to Rolla P. and Blanche C. (DeClue) Rulo and remained extremely close to all of his siblings.

At the age of 19, Rollen began his employment with Laclede Steel in Alton, and dedicated 37 years to the company, retiring as a Millwright.

As a member of a large and loving family, Rollen learned early on the value of hard work, loyalty and devotion to all.  He was extremely proud of his family and cherished time spent with all of them.  He enjoyed anything outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting rabbit, squirrel or duck, mushrooming, and although he didn't particularly consider himself a dancer, if the song "Wipeout" was played, he let his dance moves shine.

He married the former Shirley Hotz on June 25, 1960, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton, and together they have been blessed with nearly 64 years of marriage and the immense joy of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Rulo of Grafton; his three children and their spouses, Sandra and Rick Monroe of Grafton, Kathy Rulo and her companion, Pat Scoggins of Medora, and Jeffrey and Beth Rulo of Grafton;  Eight Grandchildren, Adam Monroe, Rebekah (Roger) Garcia, Leann Rulo, Alisa Rulo, Bradley D. Rulo, Bradi (Travis) Blair, Jordan Rulo, and Stephen (Sheridan) Rulo; eight great grandchildren;  three brothers and sisters in-law, Richard and Cheryl Rulo, Jerry Rulo, and Terry and Helen Rulo all of Grafton;  and three sisters, Charlene Carpenter, Betty Howard and Sharon Lyons all of Alton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Joshua Daniel Monroe and Joshua Alexander Ready; a great granddaughter, Haley Monroe; four brothers, Kenneth Rulo, Joseph Rulo, Roy Rulo, Ronald Rulo, and David Michael Rulo in infancy; and an infant sister, Mary Catherine Rulo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at LifechurchX in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate.

Burial will be in Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.
