Robert Lenington

Robert Randolph Lenington, 69, died at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at his home in Jerseyville.

Born January 4, 1957, in Carrollton, Illinois, Robert was one of five children born to the late Clarence Leon and Phyllis Jean (Stringer) Lenington. Raised in Jerseyville, he carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, loyalty to family, and a knack for finding joy in even the simplest moments.

Robert was a hard worker throughout his life. He began his career at National Marine in Hartford and spent time working as a Mate on the barge lines before later finding work in welding, roofing, fencing, and other trades. Wherever he worked, he was known for rolling up his sleeves and getting the job done. His final working years were spent in maintenance with Amalie Oil Company in Florida, where he remained until retirement.

On July 19, 2005, he married the former Sandra Kay Dixon in Peoria. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, creating countless memories while living in Arizona and later Florida. The two shared a special bond and many happy years together before Sandy's passing on November 22, 2019. Following her death, Robert returned home to Jerseyville, where he found comfort in being close to family once again.

Robert enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, and spending time outdoors. More than anything, though, he enjoyed being around people. He was the kind of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone, make friends wherever he went, and somehow turn an ordinary day into a memorable one. Fun and good times seemed to naturally follow him. His laugh, his stories, and his easygoing spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Samantha Varble of Jerseyville; a daughter, Tara Varble of Kane; two stepdaughters, Stacy Frank and Aleigha (Jeff) Mitchell; six grandchildren, Brady, Bronson, Zoey, Jonathon, Skylar and Kendell; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Larry (Ann) Lenington and Doug Lenington; two sisters, Sherrie Lenington and Rita Cummings, all of Jerseyville; along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish the memories they shared with him.

In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Sandy, he was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Stephanie Frank and George Frank.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2026, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial will follow at Noble Cemetery in Otterville.
