Robert "Bob" D. DiPaolo, 79, of Bethalto, passed away at 1:37 pm on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on March 29, 1944, in Wood River, IL, the son of John A. and Helen E. (Sarginson) DiPaolo. Bob married Marcella “Marky” K. (Dorsey) on November 29, 1969, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Wood River, she survives.
Along with his wife Marcella “Marky”, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Tony (Becky) DiPaolo of East Alton, Gina (Jim) Aiello of Bethalto, John DiPaolo and Todd Feldman of Bethalto, and Nick DiPaolo of Bethalto; five grandchildren, Jordan DiPaolo, Jaden DiPaolo, Kaylyn Aiello, Joe Aiello, and Sara Aiello, and two sisters, Diane Ross of FL, and Susan Valverde of VA.
Bob was a Professor Emeritus and past coordinator of the business department at Lewis & Clark Community College. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto where he was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Bethalto Zoning Board and Bethalto Village Board for many years. He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 101. Bob enjoyed working on his computer, listening to music, watching sports, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joseph DiPaolo; one brother, John DiPaolo, and one sister, Cindy DiPaolo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11 am, with Father Tom Liebler as celebrant. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
