Richard Donovon Rogers, age 91, passed away at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Alton on May 14, 2024 and was received into heaven. He left the world with loved ones close at hand. 

He was born January 18, 1933 in Alton to the late Pauline Tinsley and the late Henry G. Rogers. He was a faithful employee as a tank foreman at Owens-Illinois Glassworks for 27 years, and retired after 14 years from Cope Plastics in 1998. He enjoyed gardening, working on his car, and going to church. He also enjoyed his family, in which he was a strong spiritual leader. 

He began his family early when he married the love of his life, Marilyn Rogers, on March 28, 1952. They have had the blessing of spending 72 years together. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children and their partners: Debbie Villmow, Gina Rogers, Terri (Richard) Guymon, and Kristi (Charlotte) Campbell. He is survived by many grandchildren: Jonathon (Kendra) Villmow, David (Jessica) Villmow, Mark Villmow, Charity (Justin) Carter, Dan Villmow, Tessa (Justin) Kanturek, Joy (Kyle) Cashen, Aaron (Brooke) Villmow, and Rachel Villmow. Additionally, he is survived by his 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Tinsley, father, Henry G. Rogers, stepfather Henry “Pop” Tinsley, stepsister Amy Pitchford, and grandchild Melody Villmow. Visitation will be Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Pastor Daniel Sternquist will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project or The Alzheimer’s Association.
