Richard Rea

Richard D. Rea, 76, passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Willow Rose Nursing and Rehab in Jerseyville.  He was born on November 17, 1947, in Alton, the son of the late Curtis and Juanita (Minter) Rea.  He married the former Mary Brockway on June 25, 1977, in Alton, and she survives.  Other survivors include a daughter and son in law: Teresa and Ron Haney of Granite City, three sons and a daughter in law: Rick and Tammy Rea of Granite City, Matthew Rea of Godfrey, John Rea of Godfrey, sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, a sister and brother in law: Charlotte and Alan Locke of Rosewood Heights, a brother and sister in law: Dwayne and Carole Rea of Bethalto, Illinois,  many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Richard was employed for fifteen years in the maintenance department at Alton Public Schools.  He then went to work at Oak Furniture Company and then later worked at Marquette High School.  He was a black belt in Korean Karate.  He was an avid wood turner.  He and Mary entered many art shows.  Richard enjoyed being outside, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family.  He served in the United States Coast Guard for four years.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials are suggested to the Willow Rose Nursing and Rehab Activity Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.
