Randy F. Blackard, age 75, of Belleville, IL, born on March 23, 1951, in Wood River, IL, died on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Belleville Memorial Hospital.
Above all else, Randy loved Mary. She was the love of his life, his greatest blessing, and his steadfast companion through over 44 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faithfulness, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. Randy treasured every opportunity to be Grandpa, especially taking his grandchildren boating to their favorite spot on the Lake of the Ozarks, where laughter, sunshine, and time together created memories they will cherish forever. Randy took immense pride in serving his country.
He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1971, and his patriotism remained a defining part of his character throughout his life. After his military service, he worked as an operating engineer with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 520 and later co-owned a landscaping business. In 1991, he joined the Illinois Department of Transportation's Metro-East Emergency Patrol Vehicle (EPV) program, where, until his retirement after 25 years in 2016, he answered countless calls for help, assisting stranded motorists, protecting emergency responders, and helping restore the safe flow of traffic. Randy found joy in life's simple pleasures.
Randy loved the outdoors, working in the yard or just watching birds, golfing with friends, playing poker, and watching NASCAR races. In the later years of his life, Randy faced significant health challenges with remarkable courage and quiet determination. Even during his most difficult days, he worked hard to ensure that his own struggles never overshadowed the love, encouragement, and support he so freely gave to others. Those who loved Randy will remember not the rugged exterior he first presented, but the extraordinary heart that lay beneath it. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a patriot. Randy's legacy lives on in the family he adored, the friends whose lives he touched, the countless people he helped along life's highways, and the enduring example of love, loyalty, and grace that he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
