Nancy Schmitt Steinmeyer was born May 14, 1927 to W.L. and Dolores (Meyers) Schmitt. She married Elwood Eversull Steinmeyer on September 7, 1950. She passed to be with her husband, Elwood, and her beloved boxers on December 31, 2025.
Nancy was a strong advocate of all children. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader, a softball coach and Chairman of the American Red Cross Macoupin County swim program. She was, at the request of the park board, the first person to swim in the Carlinville City pool. Nancy and Elwood also mentored the many teens and young marrieds who came to their home just to chat.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Dean Schmitt and a sister Patt Heinz. She is survived by her son, John (Holly) Steinmeyer and two daughters Sue (Steve) McGartland and Nancy (Doug Wachob) Steinmeyer; grandsons; Jason (Alysn) Steinmeyer and Chad (Amber) McGartland; granddaughters; Kori (Tom) Faulkner, Kate (Robb) Ross and Jennifer (Kevin) Ficek; great grandchildren: Brian Steinmeyer, Sophie Wheeler, Samantha Wheeler, Evie Ficek, Kara Ficek, Elie McGartland and Emma McGartland along with many nieces and nephews.
