Michael Thomas Stassi, Jr., 94, passed away at 5 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born on December 15, 1922 in Wood River, he was the son of Michael Thomas, Sr. and Agnes (Calcara) Stassi.
A WWII army veteran, he worked as a laborer from Local #338 for 40 years before retiring in 1986. Mike was an avid Cardinal fan, was active in his church, a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the Wood River V.F.W. Post 2859 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1349, was active with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with his family.
On October 10, 1953 in Wood River, he married Geraldine Masters. She survives.
Surviving also are four sons, Tom (Sharon) Stassi of Edwardsville. Tim (Debra) Stassi of Chicago, Ted (Angie) Stassi of Chatham, Terry Stassi of Rosewood Heights; two daughters, Teena (Stephen) Vincent of Springfield, Trisha Stassi (her companion, Lee Bennett) of Rosewood Heights; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday. Father Donald Wolford will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery with military rites presented by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Parish.
