Melvin Schieler

Melvin Schieler, 83, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on January 19, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of the late Alfred and Pauline (Recker) Schieler. He married the former Margie L. Wilken on May 10, 1957, in Alton and was married for 57 years. Margie preceded him in death on December 10, 2014. Survivors include one daughter and a son in law: Michelle and Charlie Wolff of Shipman, one son: Mark Schieler of Alton, and three grandchildren: Meghan, Rachel, and Luke Wolff.

Melvin served in the United States Navy. Melvin was formerly employed by the United States Postal Service as a mailman in Alton. He was a member of the St. John’s United Church in Midway. He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 for 50 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #254 in Alton. He formerly owned and operated 4M Greenhouses in Bunker Hill.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 4pm until time of memorial services at 7:30pm on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill. Pastor Lori Schaefer will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to Bunker Hill Livewires 4-H club and Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
