Melisa Bohannon

Godfrey |

Melisa Lynn Bohannon (Wilcox), passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 4:21am.

She was born on January 1, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert Wilcox and Martha Knecht (Asmus). She grew up in Mascoutah before moving to Godfrey, where she would begin her career and family.

Melisa married Donald Bohannon on March 24, 1984 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, Illinois. He survives.

After earning her Master’s Degree, Melisa began teaching at Special School District. She later moved into Administration, where she would finish out her 28-year career before retiring in 2016. She was also a long-time parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Alton.

Melisa enjoyed shopping and traveling, and was a skilled Euchre player (even besting her father-in-law, who rarely lost). One of her greatest joys in life was celebrating Christmas with her loved ones. She made every effort to include them in decorating the tree for the holidays, and was a major player in her family's "Cookie Day" tradition.

Above all, Melisa will be remembered for her caring and giving nature. Those who met her frequently commented on her kind and sweet personality. She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by her children, Andrew Bohannon of Edwardsville, Megan (Kara) Bohannon of Godfrey, Katherine (Jeremy) Dunnagan of Godfrey, and Emma Bohannon of Godfrey; her brother, David (Theresa) Wilcox of Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Ellie, Nolan, Beau, Brynn, Baker, Lucas, Madison, and Lillian; as well as many beloved members of extended family and friends.

Melisa was preceded in death by her parents. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow.

Memorials are suggested to Marquette High School or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.
