Linda Lahey

Jerseyville |

Linda Marie Lahey, 78, died at 3:40 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.

She was born in Carrollton, Illinois on May 15, 1946, one of four children born to the late Pearl and Carmel (Ballard) Johnson.

Linda grew up on the family farm in Jersey County, where she learned early on the values of heart work, commitment to family and developed a love for the great outdoors.

She married Gerald Robert Lahey Sr. on May 29, 1965 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville. While their marriage was cut far too short with his passing on October 14, 1967, it was blessed with the greatest joys of her life: their two children.

She worked various secretarial jobs throughout her career, spending many of those years at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Dental School, where she retired.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing and working outside in her garden and tending to her property. She was a reliable resource to her neighbors and friends, assisting them around their homes in any way that she could, always out of the kindness of her heart and expecting nothing in return.

Her family meant everything to her, and she was fortunate to have created many wonderful memories with them throughout the years. When her great-grandchildren came along, there was nothing that brought her greater joy than being surrounded by their love and laughter.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Vahle; two grandchildren, Lynsey Vahle-Pieper (Jesse) and Kody Vahle; three great grandchildren, Isabella, Bentley and Greyson Pieper; a sister, Patty Porchie; a brother and sister in-law, Bob (Beth) Johnson, all of Jerseyville; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Robert Lahey Jr. on July 21, 2018; as well as a brother, Randy Johnson.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church in Jerseyville, where Linda was a longtime and faithful member.

Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Bethel Baptist Church, in care of Crawford Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
