Leo S. Dilks, 79, went to be with Jesus, January 30, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born March 2, 1944 in Fieldon, he was the son of Clifton and Velta (Trask) Dilks.
Leo had worked at Wood River Township Hospital for 28 years as an E.M.T., orderly and maintenance man. He continued working for Riverbend Headstart until retiring in 2012.
He was very active in his church, First Assembly of God in East Alton, where he had served as a Deacon for many years. He loved his church family and was always there to lend a helping hand whether it was as a janitor, Sunday School teacher, setting up for activities, driving the church van, assisting as an usher, or just reaching out to pray with someone in need.
Leo will be remembered as a sweet, genuine man, who was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending his free time golfing, with his family and friend, especially loving his only granddaughter, Kennedie whom he affectionately called, "his pretty girl". Leo never knew a stranger and treated everyone with kindness, always saying "hello" with a smile on his face. He was a man who definitely made a mark on the world and will be truly missed.
He married Wilma Woosley in November of 1973 in East Alton. She survives.
Surviving also are a daughter, Angela (Clayton) Tyler of Bethalto; granddaughter, Kennedie Tyler; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Mary Lee (Ussery) Dilks; and nephew, Christopher Leo Dilks.
A Celebration of Life Memorial visitation will be held from 10 am until time of service at 11 am Saturday, February 10 at the First Assembly of God Church in East Alton. Pastor Timothy Keller will officiate.
