Laurin E. Davis Jr., 86, died at 9:37 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born August 25, 1937, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Laurin Davis Sr. and Juanita (Everhart) Davis. Laurin served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Laclede Steel in 1998. On June 21, 1958, in Reno, Nevada, he married the former Carolyn Wells whom he loved dearly. She survives. He was a true craftsman and woodworker, making both indoor and outdoor furniture.
He loved his time serving in the Navy and loved spending time with his family. Along with his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Kelly (Mark) of Godfrey, Linda Rogers (Brian) of San Diego, CA, and Laurie Schmidt (Donald) of Godfrey. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Melissa Thorell (Adam), Jennifer Bardelmeier, Meghan Kamp (Greg), Patrick Kelly, Lauren Rogers, Shannon Kisbert (Ian), Mark Schmidt (Nicole), Steve Schmidt, and Katie Pennell (Jordan), and nine great-grandchildren, Tucker Thorell, Jackson Bardelmeier, Violet Bardelmeier, McKenna Kamp, Konnor Kamp, Grace Schmidt, Luke Schmidt, Jane Pennell, and Will Pennell.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey with full military honors. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
