Kimberly Luna, 48, of Caseyville, passed away peacefully at her home in February 2026. A lifelong resident of the Metro East, Kim lived with extraordinary compassion, strength, and generosity. She was known by all who loved her as someone whose heart was truly “too big for this world.”
Born in Granite City, Kim was the daughter of the late Mary Ann Symons, who preceded her in death in 2017. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Kim dedicated her life to caring for others. For many years she worked as a caregiver with Visiting Angels, where she was far more than an employee — she was a protector, a comfort, and a trusted friend to those she served. Kim was the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back without hesitation, always placing the needs of others before her own.
In recent years, Kim faced significant health challenges, including multiple sclerosis, Stage 4 kidney disease, and congestive heart failure. Through it all, she showed remarkable courage and resilience. Even while battling her own illnesses, she remained the steady protector and emotional anchor for her family. Her focus was never on herself, but always on her children and her beloved grandchildren, who were the absolute light of her life.
Kim was a true warrior who fought for every moment she could share with her family. Even in her final days, her thoughts were on those she loved most, preparing and ensuring they would be cared for after she was gone. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, and a deep, unbreakable devotion to family.
She is survived by her loving children, Michael Hemann, Antonio Prado (Alan), and Liliana de La Cruz (Luis); her dear friend Lacie; her cherished grandchildren, Easton and Luis de La Cruz; and a beloved bonus grandson, Sebastian. Each of them carries forward a piece of Kim’s boundless love and generous spirit.
A visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026.
A celebration of Kimberly’s life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Vitale's Hideaway.
In honor of Kim’s lifelong devotion to others, the family suggests performing an act of kindness for someone in need — a simple gesture that continues the work of the “Angel” she truly was.
