Mary “Kay” Johnson (nee Smith), 89, of O’Fallon, Illinois, born on December 28, 1934 in Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Kay was a homemaker and a mother of seven whose life was centered around her family. She loved to host all holiday gatherings and birthday parties for her family. Kay was a longtime member of St. Clare Parish in O’Fallon.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joe Johnson, and by their son, Joe Johnson, Jr. Also preceding Kay in death were her parents, Fred and Mary (nee Kramer) Smith, and her brother, Fred Smith.
Kay is survived by her six daughters, Pam (John) Risavy, Debbie Talbott, Jane (Jim) Corbier, Trish (Robert) Yawn, Brenda Johnson, Becky (Stan) Gonzalez, and by her daughter-in-law, Liz Johnson.
Also surviving Kay are her ten grandchildren, Neil Talbott, Bobby Hill, Brianna Yawn, Emily Yawn, Meghen (Brad) Ferrell, Jamie Corbier, Lindsay Johnson, Alex Johnson, Brett Johnson, and Adam (Michelle) Gonzalez, and her four great-grandchildren, Abby Talbott, Aubree Hill, Ophelia Gonzalez, and Elanor Ferrell.

The family wishes to thank the ICU and fifth floor nurses at Memorial Hospital Shiloh, the nurses and team from Elara Caring Home Health, and the nurses and team from BJC Hospice for their care and support.
Kay will be cremated, with private services, as were her wishes. She will be interred with her husband, Joe, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
