Joel Stockert

Joel C. Stockert, 76, of Staunton, Illinois passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. 

He was born Tuesday, November 25, 1941 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late George A. Stockert and Mary Jayne (Hraney) Cunin.  He married Patricia A. (Stockberger) Stockert on April 14, 1962 in Alliance, Ohio and she survives. 

He had worked as a computer programmer with McDonnell Douglas for 15 years and retired in 2004 from IBM after 19 years of service.  The United States Air Force veteran proudly served his country from 1960 until 1964 and had served during the Cuban Crisis.  Joel had a love for trains, working crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, was an artist in restoration of furniture, enjoyed his days of camping and working on geneology.  He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. 

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tina M. Stockert of Staunton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott Michael Stockert of Panama City, Florida and Robert A. and Tina Stockert of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward P. “Ned” and Glady Stockert of Marquette, Michigan; sister-in-law, Barbara J. Stockert of Rocky River, Ohio; other extended family and friends. 

In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cantrece Stockert and a brother, Sean P. Stockert. 

In accordance to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private family gathering will be held. 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
