James "Terry" and Carolyn Dooley passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Terry was born on January 27, 1936, in Alton, Illinois, the son of the late James Christopher and Blanche (Gross) Dooley. Carolyn was born on February 24, 1936, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Peter "Pete" and Louise (Hesse) Schwegel.

Terry and Carolyn were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, where they were united in marriage on July 25, 1959. Terry's career in Banking spanned over 53 years at various banks. His longest role was as Vice President of Loans. Terry was also known for his talent in B.S. and was an avid artist and painter.

Carolyn was an elementary teacher at St. Mary's and St. Patrick's schools. She was a founding member of the Lucy Haskell Playhouse Association and the Middletown Neighbors. She received the "Women of Distinction" award for her contributions and achievements.

Carolyn and Terry were involved in a variety of civic groups and activities. They were a staple in the Middletown neighborhood and adored their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carolyn and Terry will be greatly missed.

Terry and Carolyn are survived by their children, Tim (Darla) Dooley of Godfrey, Ann (Mike) Kuebrich of Alton, and Tom Dooley of Alton; five grandchildren, Andrew (fiancé, Beth Kontney), Allyson Dooley, Matt Kuebrich, Julia (Reece) Wall, and Joe (Lauren) Kuebrich; three great-granchildren, Vera, Sophie, and Henry Kuebrich; Terry's sister, Mary Ann McKay of Hardin; Carolyn's siblings, Barbara Fallon of Alton, Mary (Jim) Gillette of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Jim (Sue) Schwegel of Godfrey, John (Margaret) Schwegel of Alton, and Edward "Butch" Schwegel of Godfrey.

In addition to their parents, Terry and Carolyn were preceded in death by Carolyn's brothers and sisters-in-law, Bud (Phyllis) Schwegel, Tom (Jeanne) Schwegel, Pete (Maggie) Schwegel, and Carla Schwegel.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Lucy Haskell Playhouse Association.
