James E. Martin, 75, passed away 4:33 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born in St. Louis on December 14, 1940, he was the son of Chester E. and Opal Marie (Bennett) Martin.
He owner and operated Martin Limousines and later worked for Madison County Transit before retiring. He was a Mason and Shriner.
He married the former Benita H. Belcher on June 8, 1959. She survives.
Surviving also are two sons, James (Lila L.) Martin, Gary E. (Dana) Martin; daughter, Beth Mattingly (Ken Bertulis); grandchildren, Justin Martin, Jennifer L. (Mike) Kessinger, , Benjamin E. Martin , Lucas J. Martin, Logan Taylor Graham, Angela M. Mattingly; great grandchildren, Gabby and Emma Kessinger, Kyler J. Mattingly, Joseph M. Schwank; and many dear friends from Abundant Life Church in Godfrey where he attended.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Rev. Carl H. Woodard will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton.
