James W. Ames III, 65, of Shiloh, IL, born November 25, 1959, in East St. Louis, IL, died Sunday, August 24, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.
James was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and served on the church board. He also organized many church breakfasts and chicken dinners over the years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by two sons, Jordan Ames and Jeffrey Ames; his parents, James W. Ames, Jr. and Constance M. “Connie” Ames, nee Buckman; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Florence Ceglinski.
Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Cheryl M. Ames, nee Ceglinski, whom he married on June 21, 1980; three sons, James IV (Tessa) Ames, and Jonathan and Joshua Ames; four grandchildren, Jolie, Miles, Quinn, and Reese; three sisters, Janet Varner (Jim Daech), Julie (Tim) Jenkins; and Jeannie (Bill) O’Dell; three sisters-in-law, Jane (Tony) Indihar, Joyce (Ron) Coey, and Denise (Greg) Douglas; a brother-in-law, Don Ceglinski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of Southern Illinois, SSM Health Day Institute, and TRISI Encompass Health Rehab for their loving care for Jim.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, at St. Clare Catholic Church, O’Fallon, IL.
Funeral: A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, at St. Clare Catholic Church, O’Fallon, IL, with Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating.
According to his wishes, cremation services were held. Private burial will be held at a later date.
