Harold Halley

Harold "Steve" Stephen Halley, 74, of Cottage Hills, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

He was born on September 24, 1951, in Sikeston, MO, the son of Harold Lee and Alta M. (Cambron) Halley. Steve married Marian "Jwan" Caddy in Edwardsville on November 21, 1974. They recently celebrated their 51st Anniversary.

Steve is a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Graduating in 1970 from Worden High School. He then went on to earn an associates degree before working for Local Union 42 as a laborer and hod carrier, until his retirement. He was a protector of his family, a hard worker, and he loved deeply. Steve would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. Steve was a member of the Cottage Hills VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Steve was very fond of his pets; his cat, Ms Kitty, his dogs, Rufus, Max, and Baily, and his turkey, Esmeralda. Most of all, he cherished his time spent with friends and family, and hanging out with them all in the garage.

Along with his wife, Jwan, he is survived by his children, Skip (Vicki) Steward of Moro, Steve (Christy) Halley of Cottage Hills, and Amy (Chris) Gleason; siblings, Vincent (Kathy) Halley of Bethalto, Sheila (Rick) Hensley of Texas, Pamela Halley of Cottage Hills, Patty (Robert) Williams of Missouri, Ken Halley of Cottage Hills, and Ron (Kim) Halley of Missouri; ten grandchildren, Justin (Ashley) Steward, Chantel (Nathan) Miller, Grant Halley, Ryan Halley, Jayna Halley, Brooklyn Gentry, Lucious Gentry, Chris Gleason, Jr, Taylor Gleason, and Layla Gleason; five great-grandchildren, Emerson, Jenson, Hudson, Azara, and A'Maria; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Halley, and Tim Halley; a sister-in-law, Nancy Halley.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 10 am until time of service at 12 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Pastor Mark Burk will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Military rites will be performed by Alton VFW Post 1308.
