Gerald Jerome "Jerry" Kallal, 76, died at 11:26 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after receiving the Blessing of the Sick from Father William Hembrow on Monday, September 19, 2011.He was born at the family home in Jersey County, Il. on March 4, 1936, and was the son of the late Francis Joseph "Sam" and Alice Lorraine (Woolsey) Kallal.Jerry served with the U.S. Navy from 1954-1958, and had worked at Moore's Oil & Fertilizer in Jerseyville for 27 years, Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles both of Jerseyville, and had served as their bartender for several years, and was also a member of the American Legion Post 492. He loved work outdoors in his garden, feed the squirrels, was a talented horseshoe player, and enjoyed helping family & friends with any needed project, which lent him to the nickname "Uncle Jerry' to many.He first married Marcella Calvert, and together they had three daughters,  He later married Sylvia A. (Nash) Mohn on Oct. 18, 1985, and they have shared 26 wonderful years together.In addition to his wife Sylvia, surviving are three daughters & sons in law, Terri & John Finley and Shelly Athey all of New Bloomfield, Mo., and Kelly & Bob Long of Jerseyville; his grandchildren & their spouses, Kyle Finley, Jamie (Rob) Kennedy, Angie Durell,and her companion, Dave Drew, Brandy (Michael) Wheat, Crystal (Ryan) Durbin, Brittany (Brian) Festog, Chelsea Long, and her companion, Matt Berry, Lindsey Long, and Denise (Matt) Stidd; great grandchildren, Macie Schuster, Riley Durbin, Blakely Kennedy, Hadily Long, Curtis Chartrand, and Asher & Elizabeth Stidd.He is also survived by a sister, Sharon Combs of Jacksonville;  four brothers & sisters in law, Francis Kallal of Victorville, ,Ca., James "Jiggs" & Opal Kallal and Eddie Kallal all of Jerseyville, and Sam & Pat Kallal of Kane; a sister in law, Lois Kallal of Wrights, and a brother in law, Gene Wintjen of Carrollton; along with numerous neices and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Kenneth Suhling; four brothers, Cletus "Pete" Kallal, David Kallal, Donald Kallal, and Charles "Chuck" Kallal; three sisters, Margaret Gehlhausen, Barbara Wintjen, and Marie Madson.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday.  Father William Hembrow will officiate.Burial will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School of Jerseyville, or to St. John's Catholic School in Carrollton.
