Gerald Dewey Main Sr., 82, of Rosewood Heights, IL, passed away at 12:27 a.m. Sat. May 20, 2017 at his home.
He was born June 21, 1934 in East Alton, IL to the late Edward & Sarah (Wahl) Main. He was raised in Grafton, IL by Hine and Erie Carey, who he lovingly knew as Mom and Dad.
On Aug. 2, 1951, he married the love of his life, Nancy Mary Compton in Jerseyville, IL. She preceded him in death Jan. 30, 2004.
Gerald worked at Olin Corp for 42 years, retiring as a Security Officer and was a member of Connect Church.
He is survived by 3 sons: Gerald (Tammy Caulk) Main Jr. of Wood River, IL, Richard (Deborah) Main of Bethalto, IL and Timothy (Pamela) Main of Alton, IL; 4 daughters: Iris (David) Wells of Godfrey, IL, Tena (Dan) Merli of Wood River, Mary (Richard) Millitello of Meadowbrook and Joyce (Robert) Paine of Wood River; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Paul Main of Grafton; and 3 sisters: Doris Wallace and Ramona Highfill all of Jerseyville and Debbie Barber of Benld..
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Gail Baker; 2 brothers: James and Pete Main; and 3 sisters: Joyce Brooks, Carol Walsh and Bonnie Terrell.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Noon Wed. May 24, 2017 at Paynic Home for Funerals with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
