Evans Hughes

Evans Joseph “Ebb” Hughes, 61, died at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home in Kane, surrounded by his loving family under the care of Blessing Hospice. 

He was born on August 19, 1953 in Grafton, one of eight children born to the late Willard and Constance “Connie” (LeFaivre) Hughes. 

After high school, he enlisted with the United States Army and later went on to work on the a riverboat, which he made a living from for over 20 years. He then went on to work for Penn Gaming at the Alton Belle Casino for twelve years, and was currently employed by Boyd Gaming at Pair A Dice Casino in Peora. 

He married the former Marjorie Green on October 10, 1981 and together they have been blessed with the joys of raising their three children and 33 years of marriage. 

In his spare time, Ebb loved watching football and was a big fan of the St. Louis Rams. It was spending time with his family, however, that brought him the most happiness. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend that anyone could ask for and he will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  

Surviving are his wife, Margie Hughes of Kane; two daughters and their spouses, Vickie and Howard Patterson of Manchester and Sara Gettings and her companion, Tyke Hammond of Winchester; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kathy Dilks of Jerseyville; 9 grandchildren; four brothers and their spouses, James Hughes of Grafton; Kevin and Becky Hughes of Fieldon; Jeff Hughes of Grafton and Jon and Donna Hughes of Grafton; two sisters and their spouses, Cindy and Art Harris of Fieldon and Donna and Chad Weisman of Huntingburg, IN. 

In addition to his parents, Willard and Connie, he was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Hughes; a sister-in-law Judy Snider and his mother and father-in-law, Walter Green and Mildred Story. 

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Grafton American Legion, 14258 Scenic Hill Dr, Grafton, IL 62037. 

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
