Ernest L. "Ernie" McKenney, 59, died at 10:45 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton with his family at his side. He was born at home in Hardin, IL. on Sept. 9, 1952, and was the son of James & Louise (Fisk) McKenney. Ernie graduated in 1971 from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville, and soon began working as a welder at the Bush-Hog Krause in Jerseyville, and later worked as an operator at Valstad Quarries in Kane where he was employed for over 20 years; and was a volunteer fireman for the Kane Fire Department for the past 20 years. He married the former Paula Clothier on April 15, 1972 in Grafton, and they had just recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter & son in law, Jenny & Shawn Foppe of Dow; a grandson, who was the apple of his eye, James Michael Lee Foppe of Dow; a sister & brother in law, Janice & James Smith of East Alton; a brother & sister in law, Jeff & Kay Clendenny of East Alton; step brothers & sisters, Jeri & John Patton of Pearl, William "Junior" & Violet Clendenny of Jerseyville, Judy Warix of Eldred, Janet & Dale Triefenbach of St. Libory, James Clendenny of Rockbridge, and Joseph Clendenny of Jerseyville; his brothers in law & sisters in law, Bruce & Paula Clothier of Jerseyville, Bob & JoAnn Goheen of Dow, Bill & Carlene Klein of Grafton, Butch & Rose Hallstead of Jerseyville, Bob & Debbie Clothier of Hardin, Andy & Terri Clothier of Fieldon, Edgar & Denise Clothier of Granite City, and Chris Clothier, and his companion, Tina Grether of Jerseyville; along with many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Eugene Clendenny; a brother & sister in law, James William "Sonny" & Betty Ann McKenney. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Rev. Michael E. Foppe will officiate. Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Neurofibromatosis Foundation
