Elmer "Pete" Lee Furlow, 91, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
He was born in Mulkeytown, IL on February 1, 1935, the son of Russell I. and Victoria B. (McMillan) Furlow. Pete married Emma "Grandma Pete" M. Gossett in Arkansas on July 19, 1952. They celebrated 70 years married before her passing on May 2, 2023.
Pete worked at Laclede Steel as a crane mechanic for 44 years. He was a member of Wood River Moose. Pete was also a volunteer fireman for Meadowbrook, and served in the past in the assistant chief. Pete was also a baseball coach from the 50s to the 70s, for WMCA, American Legion, and Khoury League. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. Pete enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Nona Hohnsbehn of Litchfield, Janis (Joseph) Penning of Godfrey, Brian (Beauton) Furlow of Meadowbook, and Neal (Monica) Furlow of Meadowbrook; daughter-in-law, Amanda Furlow of Meadowbrook; a brother, Clyde Furlow; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife, Emma, he was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Furlow; a son-in-law, John Hohnsbehn; and his siblings, Robert Furlow, Betty Norris, Louise Miller, Ruby Koonce, Ruth Hammonds, and Raymond Furlow.
Private services will take place and burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final arrangements.
