Ellsworth “Jack” Bailey Jr., 94 died at 11:50 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital. 

He was born March 3, 1930 in Dekalb, IL the son of the late Ellsworth and Maxine (Perry) Bailey Sr. On November 25, 1953 in Alton, he married Millie Ziegenfuss and she survives. 

Also surviving are one daughter, Joy Lee of Alton, two sons, Skeeter Bailey (JoAnne) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Ed Bailey of Hamburg, IL, five grandchildren, Katy Jeremias (Chris) of Alton, Adam Bailey (fiancé Jenna Kot), Erica Kowalis (Josh) of Edwardsville, Meredith Bailey of St. Petersburg, FL and Mason Bailey (Michelle) of Virginia and five great grandsons. He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Bailey and one sister, Arlene Beason. 

He served in U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Illinois Bell Telephone in December of 1985 as an engineer. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, Junior Achievement, past-president of the Rotary Club of Jerseyville, assistant Scout Leader of Troop 7 Boy Scouts in Alton, Wreaths Across America, and was co-founder of All God’s Children Shall have Shoes. 

Private burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Wreaths Across America, (for the Alton City National Cemetery) P.O.
