Edward Herter

Edward “Ed” S. Herter, 80, passed away at 4:38 am Monday, July 25, 2016 at Jerseyville Community Hospital.

He was born on June 6, 1936 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Sherman & Angeline (Eschbach) Herter.

He married Judy H. (Johnisee) on December 1, 1961 at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardin.  She survives.

Ed served his country in the United States Army.  He owned and operated Barefoot Restaurant in Hardin for 54 years.  He was a member of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardin, the Hardin K of C‘s as a 3rd Degree Knight, lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and an avid pinochle player.  He loved to cook and experiment in the kitchen, fly airplanes and watch his grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by his wife Judy; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony & Kelly Herter of Decatur, IL; one daughter, Tonya Eddinger of Godfrey; one daughter-in-law, Erin Herter of Hardin; six grandchildren, Ed Herter and his wife Sarah, Evan Herter, Joe Herter, Kailey Herter, Scott Hampton II and his fiancé Heaven Kopsie and Jordan Hampton and four great grandchildren, Sophia, Emma, Scott Edward III and Bryce.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Eddie Lee Herter; a grandson, Blake Hampton and a brother, Bill Herter.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin with a Knights of Columbus rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

Burial will be private at St. Norbert’s Cemetery in Hardin.

Memorials may be made to Calhoun Ambulance and or a Scholarship fund for Ed’s great grandchildren.
