Doris (Arnold) Shaw, 76, died at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011 at DesPeres Hospital in St. Louis County, Missouri six years to the day of her husbands passing. She was born in Jerseyville on Jan. 25, 1935, the second of five children born to the late Harold Ernest & Bessie Gertrude (Liles) Arnold.Doris grew up in Jerseyville, and graduated in 1953 from Jersey Community High School.  She married William Eugene Shaw on Feb. 16, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and they began their married life together in Jerseyville until moving to Kane in 1964.  It was in Kane that they raised their family, and where she was active with the Greene County Election Board, Greene County Home Extension, and was a caregiver and housekeeper for the late Robert & Winifred Dougherty of Kane.A devoted and active member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, she did volunteered for many events wherever needed and was a member of the HiFi Class.  She also was a member of the Red Hat Society, and did volunteer work for the American Red Cross.Surviving are her son, Richard Shaw of Kane; two granddaughters, Natasha & Sunceree; a brother, Joe Arnold of Jerseyville; and three sisters, Phyllis Holste of Hardin, Martha McCoy of Dow, and Ruby Vahle of Jerseyville.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill onn April 23, 2005; and a daughter, Brenda Shaw on Sept. 11, 1982.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville or to the American Red Cross.
