Dawson McKinley Cooper, age 79, of Bethalto, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born on October 5, 1944, in Alton, IL the son of Howard "Buck" and Georgia (Walker) Cooper. He shared a life of 40 years together with Shirley (nee Walker) Cooper.
Dawson enjoyed watching all sports, especially football. His greatest joys were spending time with his family and his friends.
Dawson is survived by four children and their spouses, Jamie and Denise Sparks of Alton, Misty Cooper of Bethalto, Mindy Cooper of Bethalto, and Dawson and Stephanie Cooper III of Oxford, MS; a sister-in-law, Rose Cooper of East Alton; six grandchildren, Corey Hamilton, Kylie Hamilton, McKinzie Kizer, Cassidy and Jake Aurelio, Jessica Cooper, and Ciara Cooper; and one great-grandchild, Kennedi Watson; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Shirley; Dawson is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Gerald, Gary, Dennis and Sandy Cooper; David, and Michael; and a grandson, Brian Hamilton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time of service at Noon at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Terry McKinzie officiating.
Burial will take place in the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
