David Lewis
Pontoon Beach | Save
David “Dave” Bernard Lewis, age 81, of Pontoon Beach, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love and presence of his family. Born on June 23, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, Dave was the beloved son of the late James Lewis and Cecelia (Wichmann) Lewis.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Dave served his country with honor and quiet strength—qualities that remained evident throughout his life. On February 13, 1998, he married Dawn Walker in Edwardsville, Illinois, beginning a devoted partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Dave dedicated many years of his life to his trade, retiring from Local 1 in St. Louis as a skilled asbestos pipe cover installer and removal specialist. His work ethic was steadfast, and he took great pride in providing for his family through his craftsmanship and commitment.
Outside of work, Dave embraced life with enthusiasm. He had a deep appreciation for motorcycles and cars, finding joy in the freedom of the open road and the beauty of finely tuned machines. A devoted fan of Pink Floyd, music was another passion that accompanied him through the years. Dave was well known for his many tattoos and barbecued ribs. Yet above all, Dave’s greatest happiness came from the time he spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to those around him.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Cecelia (Wichmann) Lewis, and his brothers, James, Lawrence, and Robert Lewis.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of twenty-eight years, Dawn Lewis of Pontoon Beach; his loving children, Christine Ollis of Pontoon Beach, Lisa Lewis, Andrew (Stefany) Lybarger, and Kathleen (Christopher) Parks, all of Granite City; and his treasured grandchildren, Luke Ollis, Cody Rainwater, Ruby Lybarger, Violet Lybarger, and Matthias Lybarger; and his niece, Cindy Lewis. He is also survived by many more nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will remember him with deep affection.
A graveside service to honor Dave’s life will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with full military honors rendered by the United States Army. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, and the funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Alzheimer’s Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
Dave’s life was one of quiet strength, enduring love, and deep devotion to family legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
