David L. Smith, 72, of Bunker Hill passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 8, 1949 in Alhambra, IL. He married Connie Belt December 27, 1975 in Holiday Shores. He served his country in the United States Army. David worked as a diesel mechanic for Mike's Inc. in South Roxana and US Steel in Granite City before retiring. He loved bass fishing, racing and music.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie Smith of Bunker Hill; daughter, Jamie Johansen of Godfrey; five grandchildren, Lyndsey, Justin and Logan Johansen and Brennen and Kennedy Smith; brother Norman Smith of KY and sister, Janet Coral of Collinsville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Smith; mother, Thelma (Logan) Smith; son, Joshua David Smith and three siblings, Charles Smith, Joann Smith and Wanda Stanley.
The family will greet friends Friday, Feb. 19 from 1 p.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m. at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
