David Chiolero

David Lee Chiolero, 93, died at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Asbury Village surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 15, 1932 in Benld, IL the son of the late Thomas “Kid Irish” and Marcella (Griva) Chiolero.

David graduated in 1949 from Marquette High School. He  served in the US Army 40th infantry during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Illinois National Guard for two years.

On April 17, 1954 in Cottage Hills, he married Martha Stearns, and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2019. 

David retired in 1988 from Shell Oil Company as a supervisor of operations and maintenance. He enjoyed golf, traveling, spending winters in Destin, FL and especially his trip to Italy. David loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Surviving are four daughters, Susan Schmidt (Tom) of Godfrey, Kathy Abner (Gary) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Leanne Ridolfi (Gene) of Godfrey, Lisa Deall (Bruce) of Alton, one son, Robert Chiolero of Godfrey, eleven grandchildren, Sarah Hess (Charlie), Emily Lacy (Justin), Rachel Benrubi (Isaac), David Abner (Nyssa), Gena Woods (Brad), Matthew Deall (Taylor), Laura Heffington (Tyler), Adam Schmidt (Abby), Megan Deall, Katherine Hoeing (Nick) and Meredith Deall and seventeen great grandchildren, Caroline, Cecilia, Jack, Luke, Charlotte, Connor, Olivia, Isabel, Greta, Collins, Ellie, Alina, Jude, Brody, Josephine, Grace and Blakey and one sister-in-law, Charlotte Long.   

Besides his parents and wife, he  was preceded in death by one grandson, Drew Schmidt: a brother, Tom Chiolero, one sister, Irene Mormino, three brother in laws and two sisters in laws, Sam Mormino, Bob Stearns, Betty Stearns, Shirley Stearns and Charles Long.   

A memorial mass will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Janoski will officiate.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Drew Schmidt Memorial Scholarship Fund at Marquette Catholic High School, St. Ambrose Catholic Church, BJC Hospice or Asbury Village.
