Clarence Kanturek

Clarence William Kanturek, 88, died Monday, June 17, 2024 at Asbury Village in Godfrey.  Born March 15, 1936 in East St. louis, IL, he was the son of Rudolph U. and Viola E. (Frye) Kanturek.  He married the former Mary Ann Nekola on October 1, 1955 in Alton.  She preceded him in death on May 28, 2020.  Mr. Kanturek retired from the Alton Carpenter Union #377 after 65 years of service and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  He was a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus and the St. Peter The Fisherman Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas.  Clarence loved golfing, fishing and hunting.  He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, bowling, playing cards and was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.  Every year he made Christmas ornaments for every family member.  He loved living at Asbury Village and all the activities they offered.  Surviving are 11 children, Perry Kanturek (Bessey Shiavelis) of Blenheim, Ontario, Elaine Vincent (George) of Ft. Worth, TX, Patti Meyers (Robert) of Jonesburg, MO, Andy Kanturek (Julie) of Carroll Stream, IL, Cyndi Hargus (Derrick) of Alton, Emily Rice (Steven) of Dorsey, Sam Kanturek (Kathy) of Godfrey, Tim Kanturek (Sarah) of Alton, Lori Williams of Riverton, IL, Christopher Kanturek (Missy) of Grafton, and Alex Kanturek (Helen) of Rydal, GA.  Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, Lindsey, Darren, Shaen, Sara, Amy, Abby, Katie, Alissa, Chelsea, Bethani, Drew, Corey, Miranda, Chad, Justin, Hunter, Boston, Savanah, Kyle, Madison, and Alexandria, and 21 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Liz Dalton of Collinsville and Helen LeBeau (Bob) of Collinsville, three sisters-in-law, Dolores Parish, Elaine Person, and Rose Lee McClure.  Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Kanturek, a son-in-law, Jerry Williams, and his in-laws, Tom and Emily Nekola.  Services will be held in Mountain Home, Arkansas at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
