Carolyn Davis

Carolyn V. Davis, 87, died at 6:38 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2024, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, as a result from injuries from a tragic fall.  Born February 23, 1937, in San Francisco, CA, she was the daughter of Albert and Violet (Bowman) Wells. On June 21, 1958, she married Laurin E. Davis Jr. in Reno, Nevada after a 2 week courtship, meeting in San Francisco. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2023. They were in their 66th year of marriage. Carolyn was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.

She was employed at both C. J. Schlosser and Famous-Barr.  She enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers, taking walks and enjoyed reading a good book. She enjoyed time with family, and also getting down on the ground to play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Mark Kelly of Godfrey, Linda and Brian Rogers of San Diego, CA, and Laurie and Don Schmidt of Godfrey, nine grandchildren, Melissa Thorell (Adam), Jennifer Bardelmeier, Meghan Kamp (Greg), Patrick Kelly, Lauren Rogers, Shannon Kisbert (Ian), Mark Schmidt (Nicole), Steve Schmidt, and Katie Pennell (Jordan), and nine great-grandchildren, Tucker Thorell, Jackson Bardelmeier, Violet Bardelmeier, McKenna Kamp, Konnor Kamp, Grace Schmidt, Luke Schmidt, Jane Pennell, and Will Pennell. 

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Wells and a sister, Patricia Leigh. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steven Janoski will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
