Carol Trittschuh

Granite City |

Carol Ann (Saltich) Trittschuh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated nurse, passed away on June 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. Born on August 19, 1941, in Granite City, IL, Carol was the daughter of Margaret and Steve Saltich and grew up surrounded by the warmth of family in her hometown. She graduated from Granite City High School in 1959 and embarked on her nursing journey at St. Joseph Nursing School in Alton, graduating in 1962. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, John "Jack" Trittschuh, on October 27, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City, coinciding with her parents' 25th wedding anniversary.
Carol's nursing career was marked by unwavering dedication and care. She began at St. Elizabeth Hospital and later specialized as a pediatric nurse, working alongside Drs. Berman, Wilkins, Antinue, and later with Drs. Ahmad and Rana until her retirement in 2014. Her kindness and nurturing spirit, two of her greatest traits, extended beyond her professional life. Carol provided loving care for her mother, Margaret, as well as her Aunt Helen Hoffek and Uncle Rudy Hoffek for multiple years.

Outside of her nursing career, Carol found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed moments outdoors, gardening and working in her yard. Carol also enjoyed Cardinals baseball, watching soccer, and loved social outings with friends and family, whether for lunch, shopping or at the casino. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her dedication to her beliefs and her active participation in her church community.

Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie Saltich, her brother, Stephen Saltich, and her beloved husband, John "Jack" Trittschuh. She is survived by her brothers, Jack (Pam) Saltich and Dave (Pam) Saltich, her sons, Jack Trittschuh and Steve (Debbie) Trittschuh, and her cherished grandchildren, Aspen, Cody, and Teal, as well as nieces and nephews Shelly (Saltich) Cope, Lori (Saltich) Murphy, Dan Saltich, Amanda (Saltich) Carrigan, Jacob Saltich, and Joseph Saltich.

In celebration of Carol's life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant. Internment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to Masses or to a charity of one’s choice. Carol will be remembered for her boundless love, her gentle spirit, and her selfless dedication to others. May her legacy of compassion and kindness continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In memory of Carol's love for baseball and soccer, her son Jack kindly requests that those attending the wake, if they wish, consider wearing a shirt or jersey from their favorite sports team.
