Billy Ray Thompson, 82, of Rosewood Heights, IL, passed away at 9:56 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
He was born Nov. 3, 1933 in Osceola, AR to the late Ira Ruben & Ora (Neely) Thompson.
On Aug. 3, 1953, he and Frances Marie Estes were married in Bono, AR. She preceded him in death on Apr. 24, 2015.
Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran serving from 1953 to 1957. He retired in 1993 from McDonnell-Douglas as an Expeditor. He had been a member of the East Alton American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Tim Thompson of Dorsey, IL; 2 daughters, Peggy (Nick) Giacalone of Bethalto, IL and Nikki (Jason) Lockhart of Alton, IL; 5 grandchildren, Kristin (Travis) Steward, Nicholas J. Giacalone, Lindsay (Kyle) Kampwerth and Grant & T.J. Lockhart; 3 great-grandchildren, Sam Steward, Kolton Kampwerth, and Brooklyn Steward; a brother, Joe (Doris) Thompson of AR; 1 sister, Ruby (R.L.) Johnson of Granite City, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, JoAnn Martin of AR and Wilma Lee; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Martin and 2 sisters, Juanita Broadaway and Jenny West.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22. Pastor Ron Wenzel will officiate.
Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton.
