Benny Abbott

ORLANDO, FL.-  Benny Ray Abbott, 74, formerly of Kane, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Orlando, Florida.He was born in Kane on May 30, 1937 one of three children born to the late Ernest & Viola F. (Berry) Abbott.Benny served with the U.S. Army as a US Paratrooper 11th Airborne Infantry, and had a successful 30 year career with Lockeed Martin.  He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, bust mostly enjoyed his visits to Kane to visit with family & friends.  He had a great love for gardening, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.Surviving are his wife, the former Ramona Witt, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1959;  four sons & daughters in law, Timothy Abbott, Michael Abbott, and Thomas & Tammy Abbott all of Orlando; Christopher & Ellen Abbott of North Carolina; a daughter & son in law, Michele Abbott & David Bailey of Orlando; four grandchildren and their spouses, Nicholas & Marcasia Abbott, Benjamin Abbott and Matthew Abbott all of North Carolina, and Emmy Bailey of Orlando; a great grandchild, Kailani Abbott of North Carolina; a brother, Frank Abbott of Kane; and a sister, Shirley Bell of Orlando.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kane Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Keene.Inurnment will be in the Kane Cemetery where the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct military graveside rites.Memorials may be given to the Kane Baptist Church.
