Barbara Josephine Clark, 88, died at 8:50 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2019, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab Center in Granite City. She was born to the late Virgil and Elise (Walz) Lemons on May 3, 1931, in Milton, where she grew up and attended Milton High School. She married Francis Roentz on January 29, 1949, and together they began their married life in Michael, later relocating to Grafton in 1952. Throughout their 21 years of marriage, Barbara and Francis were blessed with three children, prior to his death on October 8, 1970. She later married Thomas Womack on November 25, 1971, and they shared in 12 years of marriage prior to his death on April 1, 1984. She would then go on to marry Vernon Clark on January 1, 2000, and their union spanned 2 years, prior to his death on August 18, 2002. Growing up as part of a large family, Barbara learned early on the values of hard work and worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, ultimately retiring from Millers First Insurance Company in 1991. Barbara was devout in her faith and a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grafton. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing and her fresh baked goods were a staple at any family gathering. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Rodney and Lee Roentz of Dow; Francis 'Gene' and Marcia Roentz of St. Albans, MO and Mary Jo and Don Durham of Alton; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Wilma Jane Holsman of Jacksonville. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Meggison and 7 brothers, Oscar Lemons, Russell Lemons, Roy Lemons, Virgil Lemons, George Lemons, Elmer Lemons and Billy Joe Lemons. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2019, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville with father Martin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to Vitas Hospice, in honor of the great care that they provided to Barbara.
