Arlene Kay Katana, 71, of Venice, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 12:26 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at St. Louis University Hospital. She was born September 16, 1954, in Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of the late Elmer P. Nash and Gladys (Cook) Brown.
Arlene married the love of her life, Gregory W. Katana, on June 24, 1978, at First Baptist Church in Venice, Illinois, and he survives. Their enduring marriage was a testament to love, devotion, and partnership.
She dedicated her working years serving others, including her time with Help at Home and as a secretary at Venice Grade School. Arlene was a proud member of the Venice History Committee and found great joy and fellowship at New Creation Fellowship in Mitchell.
A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Arlene rarely missed watching a game and took great pleasure in cheering on her team. She was known for her generous spirit and compassionate heart, always seeking ways to help others. Over the years, she faithfully supported numerous charities and causes close to her heart.
Arlene found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—reading a good book, watching parades, dining out, and most of all, spending time with her beloved family and friends. She also held a special place in her heart for her cherished pets throughout the years.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Jodi Katana of Granite City, and Gregory and Sally Katana II of Maplewood, Missouri; her two grandchildren, Dominic Kemper and Madilyn Katana; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Nash and Charles Nash, and two sisters, Norma Cullum and Donna Hocking.
A celebration of Arlene’s life will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Monday, March 30, 2026. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Terry Sutton officiating.
