Alan Lee Cox, Sr., 72, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born Jan. 30, 1952 in Alton, he was a son of Clifford and Barbara (Looper) Cox.
Alan was a roofer for many years. He was an animal lover, especially dogs, although he also saved some injured squirrels. He also enjoyed fishing. Known by family and friends as a jokester, any get-together usually resulted in someone’s face being pushed into cake, playfully turning into a food fight. Most of all, he was one of the St. Louis Cardinals’ biggest fans and never missed a game.
Survivors include his children, Jennifer (Jeff Waters) Cox of East Alton, Alan (Rebecca) Cox, Jr. of Alton, Josh (Kara) Arnold of East Alton, Jesse (Jenny) Sheets of Alton, Phillip (Summer) Cox of New Mexico, and Jacqueline Wilfong of Alton; grandchildren, Doug (Ashlynn) Grizzle, III, Mathew Reynolds, Shana Reynolds, Jasmine Sanders, Roxi Wilfong, A.J. Cox, Kylee Cox, Keri Bligh, Taylor Cross, Cam Arnold, Jake Sheets, and Jaxon Sheets; great grandchildren, Douglas IV, Neveah, Serenity, Jayden, Rosealee, and Rylee; his siblings, Gloria (Scott) Harris of Kansas City, MO, Russell Cox of Wood River, Claudia Cox of Alton, and Pamela Harris of Alton; many nieces and nephews; his former wife and close friend Marcia Giberson of East Alton; his best friend Charlie Price of Alton; and numerous friends from the Alton Moose Lodge, where he was a longtime member.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Theresa Hunt-Cox; and his brother-in-law, Gary Cox.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 5 p.m. Friday, June 28 at the Alton Moose Lodge.
